Is climate change the doomsday virus ?
On January 8th 2021, I politely and kindly asked all of my staff to get vaccinated against CoVid19. The UAE government has chosen to make two vaccines available to the public free of charge, and on January 8th it was “first come - first served”. I assumed that everyone would see and understand the intrinsic logic behind helping our society to get as many people immunized as quickly as possible.
Two days later, I was asked if it is “mandatory”. It seemed some people were “dithering”.
That puzzled me, I confess.
Even if you are one of the very few people who has a real and legitimate reason not to get vaccinated, surely everyone can see the benefit of mass vaccination ? Can’t everyone see the benefit to society – essentially “don’t do it for yourself, do it for everyone else” ?
And it then dawned on me that this is the most remarkable parallel with climate change.
The virus is like climate change and the vaccine is Net Zero.
Companies are “dithering”. Faced with the absolute certainty of climate change “infection” if we continue on our current path of not wearing climate change “masks” such as low carbon fuels and solar power, companies around the world are still dithering about whether they should adopt a Net Zero “vaccine” strategy now, or at some stage beyond their individual golf course drenched retirement.
The result is the same. If only a few companies take the Net Zero “vaccine” then we will never be rid of this climate change “virus”.
And if we are all too stupid or selfish to immediately adapt to our ever changing environment, wouldn’t it be perfect Darwinism if all of us, companies and individuals alike, die out ?
